When Scott Abbott and Chris Haney in 1979 set out to create a new board game, it was impossible to foresee the impact the two Canadians thoughts were to have on millions of people around the World.
Scott Abbott, sports editor of the Canadian Press, and Chris Haney, photo editor of the Montreal Gazette, created a game unlike anything ever seen before, and a game which within a few years made both of them extremely wealthy. In 1984 alone around 20 million copies of the game were sold in the United States, and to this date close to 90 million copies have been sold worldwide. But not only the two creators have gained finasially from the game. Ed Werner and John Haney originally helped make quiestions for the game and each got a share of a reported 18 percent of the company, while Scott Abbott and Chris Haney kept 22 percent each for themselves. However, the group was said to have run out of money and had to turn to friends and relatives to raise more capital, and they too have have had a significant turnover on their investment. 34 people invested in the game that became the world's number 1 board game. Scott Abbott has spent a great deal of his money on sports in Canada. He is now the owner of the Brampton Battalion hockey team. The two inventors have remained friends and together own two golf courses outside Toronto, Canada, they have a mutual interest in race horses and are partners in other business adventures.
